Takami Sushi sits on the periphery of the 21st floor of the 811 Wilshire building with open and dramatic views of Downtown Los Angeles. The management of Takami, and its sister club Elevate, are well aware of their position in the city and its amazing views wrapped around it. It really is the highlight of any visit--day or night. As we've said in other reviews, All Streets Gourmand believes that the atmosphere of a restaurant adds an element to the food, and Takami is no different. Its byline is 'Sushi and Robata Restaurant' for a reason--you will find a mix of both sushi and robata. The latter is the term for 'fireside' cooking, or grilled. This means you and your party will have many options, and Takami straddles the line of both traditional and modern takes on both. For our visit, we made sure to make reservations, just in case, as it seems (or at least our take was) that Takami does a lot of private events. We found calling ahead is always good policy. We made our reservation to straddle dusk, so our views of the city were both in full daytime, into dusk, then night. Leave early for your reservation--there is parking at 616 Figueroa St--but, for ease and entry, we recommend valet, located right on Lebanon St. The door here takes you right into the building. After reviewing the menu and thinking of our tastes for the night, we opted for small plates and sushi. We really wanted to try both the sushi and robata, and a few cocktails to boot. Takami is designed for this, so why not take advantage? To start, we had the Kakutsuru Hot Sake to warm the stomach and the senses, immediately followed by Arare Calamari and Japanese Tacos to get us started. Both were good starters, but we quickly wanted more cloying flavors. Next up was the Chilean Sea Bass Robata--so good, we actually ordered a second set. These were the best sea bass skewers we've had in a short period of time. We had a flavor profile to work from, but this was well-seasoned and well-executed--correctly balanced and served at the peak time. The Toro Sushi and Penthouse Roll were likewise good and perfect, filling bites for the table. We took a quick mid-meal break with their Toki Old Fashioned and their Smokin' Dragon. We noted they take their cocktails seriously, so we appreciate the effort as we watched them make the drinks. The Old Fashioned was lively, with Japanese whisky, citrus notes, and Luxardo. We liked that it was a light counter to the normal drinks of its kind. The Smokin' Dragon, with its Mezcal and Cointreau, and a dried dragon fruit was very smoky--we can't remember a drink of its kind. Now, we don't necessarily say to continue on, but I take credit for still being a bit peckish and opted to get the table some of the Creamy Rock Shrimp and Wagyu Sushi. I have found a finishing beef to end a meal to be satisfactory--and there is something about a nigiri beef option that is just right at the end. The rock shrimp was sweet and quite a lot to share. And, we started for the views, but we can't express how impressive the views from 811 Wilshire are--bring a date, bring business clients, or out-of-town family--they are going to be easily impressed. It flavors the food, honestly--the views are open air, so you are getting the city as part of your flavor profile. Takami Sushi isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience. The combination of top-notch cuisine, innovative cocktails, and breathtaking views makes it a standout in Downtown Los Angeles. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, perfect for any occasion, whether it's a romantic dinner, a business meeting, or a night out with friends. The open-air design enhances the dining experience, allowing the ambiance of the city to seep into your meal. The service at Takami is attentive without being overbearing, and the staff's knowledge of the menu and drink offerings is impressive. They're happy to make recommendations based on your preferences, ensuring that every visit feels personalized and special. In terms of the food, each dish is thoughtfully prepared and presented, with a clear emphasis on quality ingredients and meticulous attention to detail. The balance of flavors and textures in both the sushi and robata dishes showcases the chefs' expertise and creativity. The Chilean Sea Bass Robata and Wagyu Sushi are must-tries, offering a delightful mix of taste and presentation that leaves a lasting impression. The cocktails are equally noteworthy. The Toki Old Fashioned and Smokin' Dragon are perfect examples of how Takami blends traditional elements with modern twists. Each sip is a journey, with layers of flavor that complement the food beautifully. Overall, Takami Sushi is a destination that delivers on all fronts. It's a place where you can enjoy exceptional food and drinks while taking in some of the best views Los Angeles has to offer. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Takami promises an unforgettable dining experience that will have you coming back for more.

Last stop on our daughters LA birthday adventure. Sge had selected Takami as her final stop. This rooftop sushi spot located in the financial district on Wilshire Blvd is very nice indeed. Note that there is a lounge "Elevate" located right next to Takami that causes a bit of confusion on dress code. TIP - If you are just coming for the sushi, casual dress seems fine. However, if you are planning to jump over to elevate after your meal, classy club attire is suggested The rooftop has wonderful views of the city and is an excellent way to enjoy your meal. When we arrived, we were seated right away, and James, our server, showed up right away and took our drink orders along with starters. Everything we ordered was very fresh and prepared with precision. Once we finished the starters (Edamame, Salmon Carpaccio, and gyoza), we moved on to the rolls and sashimi. We ordered the DTLA roll, California Roll, Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, along with Fatty Tuna (get the Otorro!) and Salmon Belly. There was so much that was good/great about the meal, the only area that I knocked them on was the lack of staff support...it seemed our server was alone at the tine we went which was 8pm...not sure what happened there, but it definitely took away from the continuity. That said, I will indeed be visiting again and looking to try even more of the menu

Takami Sushi, we had the honor of celebrating our friend's wedding anniversary at Takami's Sushi in #DTLA. It was quite an experience with 98 years of marriage among us the conversation was enriching. The atmosphere and ambiance were perfect. We ordered the Sea Bass and it was delicious and melted like butter in our mouth. We loved it. I had the stacked Ahi Poke' it was tasty. Overall it was a good experience but way overpriced.

Okay, so this place was rated one of the, if not, the best sushi restaurant in Los Angeles in 2023, and I'd have to agree with them. The fish are all prime cut and delicious. As you can see, we ordered a lot of food to try between the 4 of us. I eat a lot of sushi and this place for sure is quality with quantity. A little pricy but for the quality it pairs well. I'll start off, the A5 wagu were delicious, so good we got 3 orders! Hot clay pot , 10 seconds each size and pairs so well with the egg yolk dip. Scallop was phenomenal! Also pairs very well with the Asian sliced pair. They're a little small so you'll have to really savor the flavor unless you plan to eat it all yourself (I wish I did) Sushi were all great, now, I would have given this place a 5 start rating but I've had about 3-4 different pieces of Shashimi cuts where I had muscle or very chewy part of the fish which I think could have been avoided. The service was great, they were attentive however one of the workers almost spilled juice on one of us, which is okay, she apologized and felt very guilty (look on her face says it all) I hope she knows we're not mad. Drinks were good, not a heavy hand on the liquor but will hit you after (light drinker here) Snow crab!!! My favorite and I'll say, it's very very very fresh and tasty ! Overall, great experience, the location may prove to be difficult to find since parking sucks in the heart of downtown la. Valet around the corner in the alley (sketchy) walk to the front on Wilshire Blvd to enter the building and elevator up to the 21st floor! High rise dining with a great view, great place for a date!!

Located in DTLA on the 21st floor of 811 Wilshire, this elegant penthouse rooftop restaurant has stunning views of downtown. We sat outside in the corner and the ambience is spectacular. Shout out to our server, JJ, who was phenomenal. He took care of us all evening and made some great food and drink suggestions. His great personality and attentive service added to our already great dining experience. The other servers helping out didn't always have the same flare and attention to detail. On two occasions, we had the wrong order brought to our table. The food was overall pretty good (we ordered a myriad of sushi rolls and robata skewers). There were no complaints there. The majority of our drinks were fantastic! I say most, because a member of our party had a really poorly made strawberry margarita (which we all tried and agreed) that we had to send back. My two lychee martinis were perfect though. Overall, a great space with great service and pretty good food and drinks. Valet parking was $12 and very convenient. I think it's probably equivalent to nearby parking garages.

Great Service, beautiful view , food delicious. They valet parking , same cost as parking in the garage. Once you walk in your greeted right away . We had reservations we were steamed right away . Our waiter was very friendly . Our table had variety of different dishes , I didn't capture the pictures fast enough. I got lucky an took a few of the dessert dishes which was a trio of chocolate croissants bread pudding with ice cream, Sugar Waffle with ice cream with syrup on the side an mochi . My cocktail drink midori sour one of the best I had . I recommend to try this place out! You will not be disappointed .

Great spot to come for some fresh sushi and great views. Everything we got was delicious and very fresh. They also did a great job with accommodating allergies and food restrictions. Service was fantastic. Few cons: I didn't realize until after we left that they forgot one of our rolls. Also, the club down the hall seemed very tacky/loud and it brought the overall vibe of the place down.

Takami is probably top 5 sushi spots for me. So many different aspects of it is what makes it amazing. From its food quality to presentation, to the restaurant ambiance, to the beautiful rooftop views, to the amazing service they provide. It really a perfect place for just a normal day/night or a special occasion. For appetizers I got the scallops and calamari w curry sauce which was just amazing. Then I tried their omakase and it was worth every single penny. I don't want explain too much details of the omakase because they do explain it as part of the experience. Just trust me, if it's your first time and money isn't an issue, get the omakase. The drinks are also amazing with their unique cocktails. Also what I love about this place is that you can bring people that don't like sushi because there's meat options for them. It really just a great spot for everyone to enjoy. Must try!

Guys...... if I could go back and tell myself one day you'll be in Los Angeles eating sushi, drinking virgin Lychee martinis on a rooftop..... this was an amazing experience. The tuna tower is one of the best things I may have ever tasted. Words really cannot describe it. The garlic edamame was the best edamame I've ever had. Didn't even know you could get it garlic flavored. We got all kinds of Sushi to try but the stand out was the lemon albacore roll. The flavor was so powerful. I even ate the lemon. You didn't need soy sauce or wasabi for these rolls. So lemon was my fav and my least fav was the tiger roll. Not that it wasn't good. I just didn't mind dipping that one in soy sauce. Miso soup was great but not super different. The view was so great. And the outside area has heaters too so don't let 60 degree weather keep you away. Excellent experience. *just watch the elevator. It jammed when we were going down and we got scared. Luckily it started up again.
